Overview
Booster is numbered FLP-02 as it was my second functional design- it was, however, published after the FLP-03. The FLP-01 was a Rainbow catch using duck's foot "derringer", and was absolutely terrible but goofy and fun. Booster was my first properly usable design I could be proud of.
The germ for Booster came from Meaker's Mk18 "Assault Pistol", which was an interchangeable barrel shotgun pistol using 1" 200PSI PVC pipe as the plunger tube. I found that the Mk18 was great, but most times I needed a shotgun pistol, I needed two shots. I would often rush cover, get one tag, and then be tagged by another opponent. Booster was designed to essentially solve that problem- a second barrel, ready to go instantaneously.
I designed my own barrel mating system, because the Mk18's was relatively fragile and kept a poor air seal. I used nesting brass stubs to keep an air seal and support the bayonet mount; however, the barrel system is by far the weakest point of Booster. I also used a split-T shaped pair of catches, directly acted upon by two triggers; the left, lower trigger fires the left side, and the right, upper trigger fires the right side (or both, if they are both primed). With the two independent triggers, you have two shots available, or one huge blast (with triple barrels, up to 12 short darts at once!).
I initially built it for 1" 200PSI PVC plunger tubes and used versions like that for years. After FLP-03, I revisited this design to swap to hobby standard Caliburn plunger tubes, making the blaster a bit bigger and a lot more powerful.
Barrel options range from basic triple darts to singles, Mega, Mega XL, RSCB 5 shot setups, and my favorite- duck's foot. It's a very fun blaster- and directly led to the idea that became Terminus. Using a double RSCB setup, I found that I got more tags than I thought I would with a blaster shooting 40 fps lower than everyone else. Having the instant second shot was incredibly useful!
